The other day in Geography Gibson came in and said "Nasty! who would do that? Who would kiss their girlfriend in the middle of the hall? Nasty!" I totally and completely agree. Then again I wonder who would even have a girl/boyfriend in ninth grade.
Dating is so utterly pointless in Junior High. Even in High School I think its made into a bigger deal than it should be. Dating is just a way of making friends with someone of the opposite gender. And having fun. Why do we get so serious so fast?
I love romance novels, and the 'gooshy' parts of movies as much as the next girl, but why are we so anxious to get into a relationship at age 14 or 15? Why do we want the problems that accompany 'a little bit of fun'? Dating too early can be as bad as taking drugs or drinking alcohol. You can get into serious trouble.
Maybe it's just my upbringing, but having children outside of the covenant of marriage is wrong. It just is. There are high school students have abortions because they weren't ready for a child. Teenagers are not responsible enough yet to have that burden laid upon their shoulders, yet oftentimes it's their own decisions that put them in that position. In fact this is the case 100% of the time. You're parents do not encourage you, I'm sure, to go find a boy/girl friend and have baby! They tell you to wait. They tell you you're not ready(yeah, I know, the words we never want to hear from our parents but they're completely true) Statistics have shown that people who begin dating before the age of 16 are more likely to take part in premarital sexual relationships. It's not right, it's not even cool, It's awful and abortions are just cruel.
Even when a person begins dating it shouldn't be in a paired relationship. That's the other part of the danger in dating that could lead to teens with kids. When you are with one person and one person only you are more tempted to do things you shouldn't do. Go on group dates do something that will not allow you to pair off. Because as soon as you do the danger lights flash.
I don't want to put forth the idea that I know much about dating. Truth is I'm not old enough to date. Only one more year and I'll be old enough. But I do know that having a baby as a teenager can ruin your life. It may not stay in the dumps forever, but you will have a really hard time doing what you need to do.
I hate hearing about 9th graders at my school talking about people who are "going out". There's no glory in 'going out'. There's no glory in what is going on here. It's dangerous and not worth the risk.
"Oh my little Miss Librarian, you pile up enough tomorrows you'll find you've collected nothing but a bunch of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you but I'd like to make today worth remembering." -Harold Hill, "The Music Man"

Life
Have you ever noticed how life gets so busy, but yet there is no really important big event going on? Recently that has been my life, I haven't had a lot to say. However, yesterday Going Second, A band, came to our school.
Going Second is on Tour with the Music Makes Music Foundation. They are going around to schools and trying to convince students how important music really is. some of the interesting things they said were like this. A high school drop -out costs the U.S 250,000 dollars a year. if you play a musical instrument you are more likely to have higher grades and not participate in drug or alcohol abuse.
Our Orchestra got the chance to play a song with them and that was really cool. However, Olivia S. got to sing a solo with them and that was really cool for her.
Once again Going Second made me think about how important music is in my life. Music has had a huge impact on my life. I've said this over and over again in different posts, but it is so true. From the time I was born my family has been really musical. I grew up on classical music, French Horn lessons and Piano issuing out of the front room.
Now I too join in the musical cacophony of our poor house. Everyday you will hear at least some sort of music from our house everyday. Piano from at least 4 people, maybe even 5. You will bass (the upright, string kind) and Cello. Many of these will occur at the same time.
Music is an integral part of my family's life. When there isn't an instrument being practiced there is often the radio on or a CD on. Many times this will be classical music, but often we listen to other genres as well. Every second of the day, and most of the night, there is music on in our home. I often fall asleep to music as well.
Music is something that soothes the ruffled soul, or stokes the flames of anger all by how it sounds, the beat, the rhythm and all the other components of a loverly piece.
Music is a power beyond all that words can convey. A power that can turn one soul from the depths of despair into the sunshine of a beautiful day in literally 3 seconds. Music is a power that has yet to be beat.
Music is my life, my very soul, the beauty of a sunlit day, the peace of the darkest night. The serenity of peace of mind. The wonder of all nature has to share.
Music Is Magic.

Wonderful Birthday Present Part 2
Thursday morning I woke up early (not on accident, it was on purpose) and I made breakfast (Milk Cake better known as Coffee Cake) and then got ready to go to the temple. At 9:30 we went over to the church and much to my dismay, they remembered it was my birthday and everybody sang to me. I would have been okay with the "hello's" I got from people but the chorus was just too much.
I rode down to Salt Lake with 5 other young women and the Beehive's advisor. we had a great time and Caitlin fell asleep. Love her to death though. When we got down to the Conference Center Parking area we drove around forever just trying to find a parking spot. Then we got out and joined the rest of our group at the front of the Conference Center. We took a couple of pictures and headed towards the temple.
We entered the temple and got our recommends checked. Then we got our suits and went and got dressed. we came back and all the young men and half the young women were given family names that we had brought with us. I was not one of them and neither were Alyssa, Ashley, Allie Ashlynn, Caitie, and myself. We went and did confirmations first. When both Ashlynn and Allie were done they sent them to the font area, but Caitie and I stayed till the both of us finished. We were about to go up to the font area but the YW president pulled us and said: "you can't go yet" I started to protest but then she pulled me in and whispered in my ear,"the General Authorities are going to pass through." Okay that's enough for me, I'll stay!
We waited for about 10 minutes, first two secretaries passed through. then all of a sudden President Monson was walking toward us, and directly behind him was President Eyring, then President Uchtdorf. all four of us young women, the only youth from our ward (Ashley, Alyssa, Caitie and myself) to see this magnificent sight, gasped. standing not 10-15 feet in front of us was the prophet of the Lord. Presdient Monson made a joke, "Conference is over, you can go home now," and, "Are you having your own Conference?" and "did you enjoy Conference?" Then he had President Uchtdorf say something in German, and hoped that someone would reply. Dad would have, but he was in the very back. Then they went on their way. We figure, and we could be wrong, that they were on their way to lunch after their Thursday meeting.
One by one several of the twelve filtered through. Elder Bednar, Elder Cook, Elder Christofferson, Elder Nelson, Elder Packer, Elder Ballard and last but not least, Elder Scott. Then we went into the Baptistry and did baptisms. All in all, the highlight of my 15th Birthday!

Wonderful Birthday Present
"I love to see the temple, I'm going there some day" so goes the first line of a popular Primary Hymn.
I too love to see the temple. I've been already, but tomorrow I get to have another wonderful experience. Tomorrow, my birthday, I get to go to the Salt Lake Temple for the very first time. My youth group is going tomorrow. No, this was not planned for my birthday rather, we all wanted to go to the temple.
Our Ward is in the Ogden Temple region, but because of the extensive remodeling they are doing our part of the region has been relocated to the Salt Lake Temple. We are going to take advantage of this and we get to go there tomorrow. I don't know if I can impress enough how exciting this experience is for me. My parents were married inside this temple. I know I won't get to see the room they were married in, but I get to be inside that great temple and feel the peace that comes from it. I get to do Baptisms in it, this is going to be amazing.
the first temple I ever went to was the Bountiful temple. My parents took me soon after my 12th birthday. Afterward we went to an Italian restaurant and I had gnocchi for the first time.
The second temple I've been to was the Ogden, Utah Temple. I first went there with my ward and we always went out to Farr's Ice Cream afterward. I always got this peppermint kind that is sooooo good.
The third temple was the Snowflake, Arizona Temple. The neat thing about the Snowflake temple is that it's practically in my Great-aunt and Great-uncle's Backyard. My Onkel Nicolas is really into family history and has reserved all the names on one side of my family. So while we were down there we were able to be baptized for family names in the Snowflake Temple, it was really neat.
Now the really cool thing about the Salt Lake temple is that it's construction took 40 years to complete. It's the most well-known of all the LDS Temples. Every Latter-Day-Saint probably knows where it is and that it took 40 years to build. From the outside the Salt Lake temple is very beautiful. It's surrounded by really tall buildings, that, believe it or not, were not there 100 years ago when the Salt Lake Temple was built. Normally we build our temples on hills so they "stand as an Ensign to the nations" but as the city of Salt Lake grew, the Temple was surrounded.
The most distracting temple that I know of is the Washington D.C temple. I guess as you come around the curve in the road, it's right in front of you and really bright. My friend has been in that one and she thought it was pretty cool.
"I love to see the temple, I'm going there someday. To feel the Holy Spirit, to listen and to pray"
I love to see the temple, I'm going there tomorrow, to feel the Holy Spirit, to listen and to Pray.
Hopefully I've shown you just a little bit of the love I have for the temple, my words are inadequate to describe my feelings about the temple. It truly is a beautiful house of the Lord. I love the Temple and hope to share my feelings around the globe.

New Love
I've found a new love, no, not human, book. I went book hunting in the library on Friday and came up with a book called The Mother-Daughter Book Club. It's about 4 girls whose mother's decide it would be a fabulous Idea to start a Book Club. A mother daughter book club is not all it's cracked up to be, the mother's are pretty good friends but what about the girls.
The first book they decide to read is Louisa May Alcott's Little Women. This is one of my favorites as well. I read it for the first time in 6th grade, or was it 5th? Anyway every 4th term I read it again. I've read it 3 or 4 times now and it is still a favorite.
Both these books are fabulous reads and I loved them. The next step? Much Ado about Anne the next book in the series.
*If you would like to see what the books look like click the "next" button on my Shelfari shelf, there on there!

Fahrenheit 451
Right now in English we are reading a book. And to be quite frank with you, I don't like it one bit. Fahrenheit 451 is a very well written book and I love the story line. However, many of the ideals in the book are absolutely horrid!!!!!! for instance:
The other day I was reading captain Beatty's spiel, and, well, it was awful!!! I quote, ". . . the word 'intellectual,' of course, became the swear word it deserved to be." Bam! right there something I can't believe somebody just said, book or no. But, it goes on," . . . Surely you remember the boy in you own school class who was exceptionally 'bright,' did most of the reciting and answering while the others sat like so many leaden idols, hating him. And wasn't it this bright boy you selected for beatings and tortures after hours? Of course it was." O.K. We live in a sad society once the 'nerds' and 'geeks' and 'intellectuals' of our society are being picked on. I mean even in my school we do slightly make fun of people if they are too smart for their own good. I should know, occasionally I get the treatment. But when we beat up a kid for being smart,( For crying out loud s/he was born that way!) we have sunk to an all time low. That's just despicable and mean.
On and on it goes. "We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the Constitution says, but everyone made equal. Each man in the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against." So every man isn't made equal, but where one excels at music another excels at science. We're all different and that's what makes us unique. we can't be who we are if we aren't doing something that defines us. Imagine a world where all of us look alike. if everyone had the same likes and dislikes. there would be no purpose! how could anyone ever be happy? They couldn't. In order to be happy you need to be your own person. It's almost imperative. Alright so it is imperative. I have friends that wouldn't be themselves if they didn't do what they do. One makes lousy and sometimes actually very good puns. One is always quoting movies. One is a Science geek (yes I said that) they wouldn't be themselves if they weren't always doing what they do.
But Beatty continues. "So! A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take the shot from the weapon. Breach man's mind. Who knows who might be the target of the well-read man? Me? I won't stomach them for a minute." Well Beatty I have one thing to say to you, You do not understand the importance of books. You are a despicable man. But read that last section again. "A book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it." What an awful statement, 'burn it' this is me talking and I can't hardly throw a book and not worry about it. But Burn It!!! you've toed the line and gone across it too. You don't burn a book that is dreadful, appalling, contemptible. But then again look at that section yet again. 'A book is a loaded gun . . .' Ever thought about how true that is? ever thought how the book is the thing that makes us think outside the box, and to consider the extraordinary? the book is a powerful thing. It makes you think. (Ouch! for some of us) it makes us consider the things that we would have never thought of.
I have a feeling all of the great writers who have come up with amazing fantasy worlds were well read. Look at J.R.R Tolkein, J.K Rowling, C.S Lewis.(Oh another similarity between these fantastic writers, they all use initials) they all came up with amazing, extraordinary fantasy worlds that take you out of everyday life and transport you to a magical place filled with excitement.
Books have a power not unlike that of music. they instill in us who we are. They are another type of magic. Books are what make us think as a society.
