Going Second is on Tour with the Music Makes Music Foundation. They are going around to schools and trying to convince students how important music really is. some of the interesting things they said were like this. A high school drop -out costs the U.S 250,000 dollars a year. if you play a musical instrument you are more likely to have higher grades and not participate in drug or alcohol abuse.
Our Orchestra got the chance to play a song with them and that was really cool. However, Olivia S. got to sing a solo with them and that was really cool for her.
Once again Going Second made me think about how important music is in my life. Music has had a huge impact on my life. I've said this over and over again in different posts, but it is so true. From the time I was born my family has been really musical. I grew up on classical music, French Horn lessons and Piano issuing out of the front room.
Now I too join in the musical cacophony of our poor house. Everyday you will hear at least some sort of music from our house everyday. Piano from at least 4 people, maybe even 5. You will bass (the upright, string kind) and Cello. Many of these will occur at the same time.
Music is an integral part of my family's life. When there isn't an instrument being practiced there is often the radio on or a CD on. Many times this will be classical music, but often we listen to other genres as well. Every second of the day, and most of the night, there is music on in our home. I often fall asleep to music as well.
Music is something that soothes the ruffled soul, or stokes the flames of anger all by how it sounds, the beat, the rhythm and all the other components of a loverly piece.
Music is a power beyond all that words can convey. A power that can turn one soul from the depths of despair into the sunshine of a beautiful day in literally 3 seconds. Music is a power that has yet to be beat.
"Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent"
"Music is to the soul what words are to the mind."

"Music . . . can name the unnameable and communicate the unknowable."
""Music is what feelings sound like."

Music is my life, my very soul, the beauty of a sunlit day, the peace of the darkest night. The serenity of peace of mind. The wonder of all nature has to share.
Music Is Magic.
Have you ever heard of the Icelandic band Sigur Ros? I haven't listened to all their music yet, but I found a song you might like. It's called "Staralfur," or "Staring Elf." It's very good, and even though it's in Icelandic, that doesn't really mater because it's so peaceful. If you enjoyed that one, I would also suggest "Saeglopur." (Lost at Sea.) It's an awesome song but it doesn't sound classical at all. It has a piano riff and it eventually goes into a rock section. The singing is again in Icelandic, but at some point, Jonsi starts singing in some language I can't remember. It's not an actual language though. The words don't serve any purpose for communication, they just create music.
ReplyDeleteSorry if that's too random, but I just wanted to share that with you.
Good to know.......
